Amman – The fifth Steering Committee Meeting of the EU Twinning Project ‘Support the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission in the Fields of Integrity and Corruption Prevention’ took place on the 14th of March 2022 at the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC).
The meeting was attended by the Member States and JIACC’s counterpart, with the active participation of EU Delegation to Jordan representatives and Contracting Authority, The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOPIC) where they discussed the project progress and achievements in the last three months, including revisions to the National Integrity Standards in the public sector and enhancing the capacities of JIACC to assess and manage corruption risks. The project Workplan for the next six months was endorsed during the meeting.
All the stakeholders applauded the progress made under the roadmap, despite the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID-19 new strains. During the meeting, it was discussed what had been accomplished, the lessons learned and the prospects for the future. H.E Sami Salaita – JIACC’s Board Member and National Project Leader, commended the member states and project team for the continuous success of the project, and highlighted that with the involvement of the Lithuanian and Austrian experts in implementing the activities, notwithstanding the continuing pandemic and its complications, the work program, the outcomes and milestones had been successfully achieved.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lithuanian Lead Project Leader and First Deputy Director of the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania (STT), Mr. Jovitas Raškevičius emphasized that this meeting provides stakeholders with an opportunity to discuss the latest issues in the field, including all relevant stakeholders and development partners who share the EU's best practices in the integrity and corruption prevention field, as well as outline plans for actions that will ensure the sustainability of results.
In addition, the Austrian Junior Project Leader, Mr. Gerhard Levy, Legal expert at the Ministry of Finance, expressed that the project has faced a number of challenges, but thanks to the cooperation of the project's stakeholders, and the involvement of the MDAs, the project has overcome these hurdles and with continuous support, it will end successfully.
Lastly, Mr. Salah Din AL-Jamaani, the European Union Delegation to Jordan Programme manager, stressed that this Twinning Project is making progress through all its components and achieving all the predetermined outcomes while adhering to the EU standards, therefore the European Union Delegation to Jordan has nominated this project to be published on the EU's Eastern Neighbourhood Director’s Twitter account in Brussels highlighting its achievements.
The EU Twinning Project is financed by the European Union for a total amount of €1,5 million and aims to support national institutional efforts in Jordan to strengthen Integrity and Corruption Prevention. It is implemented by the lead MS partner, Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania (STT), and the junior MS partner Austrian Agency for European Integration and Economic Development (AEI) in cooperation with the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC).
