Strengthening cooperation between Lithuanian and Bulgarian anti-corruption authorities

Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) and Bulgarian Commission for Anti-Corruption and Illegal Assets Forfeiture (CACIAF) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

The Memorandum envisages closer cooperation between two authorities in exchanging experience and best practices, sharing information about corruption-related criminal acts, including foreign bribery, collaboration in the areas of corruption prevention, anti-corruption training and awareness-raising.

In implementing the Memorandum of Cooperation, the STT and CACIAF will cooperate by researching on issues of mutual interest, carrying out joint trainings and lectures, seminars, exchanging important information, as well as conducting awareness raising activities in the field of preventing and combating corruption.

As one of the main functions of CACIAF is the identification, tracing and confiscation of the criminal assets, the STT will maintain cooperation also in this area, with a view to further enhancing its efforts in asset recovery. Moreover, the Bulgarian authority has invited the STT to join the project "Strengthening the capacity of the competent authorities in Bulgaria in terms of recovery and management of criminal assets ", funded by the Internal Affairs Program of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014–2021. In the framework of this Project, representatives of the institutions will participate in best practice exchange visits. The knowledge and skills gained during the project will be of mutual benefit and, in particular, in the activities of the asset recovery unit established in 2020 within the STT.
