Continuing the pre-trial investigation by the Special Investigation Service (STT) to determine whether corruption had been committed in the organisation of and participation in public procurement of medical equipment and other medical devices in different healthcare facilities, a total of 51 people have been currently charged.

At present, the investigation covers transactions of 12 private companies regarding the sale of various medical equipment and other devices to 14 Lithuanian medical institutions, which were concluded following allegedly non-transparent public procurement. Currently, more than 100 criminal offenses are being investigated throughout Lithuania. Twenty nine representatives of private companies and twenty-two employees of medical institutions, nine of whom are heads of medical institutions, have been currently charged with various acts of corruption.

The data collected by the STT officials now allows to suggest that the representatives of companies trading in medical devices and equipment, allegedly using various illegal means, could provide companies for more than one year with conditions for illegal win of procurements organised by various Lithuanian medical institutions for more than 3 million EUR.

The investigation is conducted by the Central Investigation Board of the STT together with all territorial boards. The investigation is controlled, organised and led by a group of prosecutors from the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Divisions of the Regional Prosecutor’s Offices.
