On September 8-10, representatives of the Special Investigation Service (STT) participated in the High-level Regional Anti-Corruption Seminar in Poland. During the meeting, the heads of the anti-corruption institutions of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland discussed the anti-corruption priorities, the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the latest anti-corruption initiatives and agreed on the prospects for further strengthening regional cooperation. Representatives of the STT also presented the new Law on Corruption Prevention.

“We appreciate the cooperation with the Baltic Region anti-corruption institutions. The experience and good practice of other countries is crucial for the overall improvement of activities. Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland face similar challenges in investigation of corruption crimes, therefore the sharing of experience and cooperation allow to achieve better results and improve competencies in the field of foreign bribery,” says Žydrūnas Bartkus, the Director of the STT.

In order to enhance the cooperation of anti-corruption agencies the Cooperation agreement was signed between STT, Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau of Latvia and Central Anti-Corruption Bureau of Poland during the Seminar.   The purpose of this Agreement is a closer, clearer and quicker cooperation between the Parties on the issues related to corruption prevention, anti-corruption education and awareness raising, as well as criminal intelligence and pre-trial investigation of corruption-related offences, including bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions.

This is the third meeting of the heads of the anti-corruption institutions of the Baltic Region. Previous meetings took place in Estonia and Lithuania.
