A pre-trial investigation has been launched into an attempt to bribe a member of the Seimas

The Central Investigation Department of the Special Investigation Service (STT), having received a report from a member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Matas Maldeikis about an attempt to bribe him, has initiated a pre-trial investigation. K. M., an assistant of the Member of the Seimas Mindaugas Puidokas, who is suspected of bribery and trading in influence, was arrested today.

Based on the data of the pre-trial investigation, K. M. offered to the Member of the Seimas Matas Maldeikis 50 000 Eur bribe, for which it was expected that a member of the parliament would personally support and influence other members of the Seimas in order to withhold and (or) suspend indefinitely the draft amendment to the Law on Lotteries and Gaming Tax of the Republic of Lithuania.

This investigation is controlled and led by the prosecutors from the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor's Office.
